           White Vine R

5cm x 5cm, 22ct gold leaf and watercolour on parchment

The white vine style resurfaced in high Renaissance period when scribes revived influences from 11th and 12th century Carolingian manuscripts. The intense jewel colours were a particular favourite often paired with gold letters. It takes quite a long time to work out how the vine would go around a letter, of course it works better with some letters than others.
