55mm x 85mm, 23.5ct gold leaf and egg tempera on Kelmscott Vellum
מזרח MIzrach is the Hebrew word for "east" and the direction that Jews in the Diaspora face during prayer. Jewish law prescribes that prayers are said facing the site of the Temple in Jerusalem. This piece is made as an ornamental wall plaque used to indicate the direction of prayer in Jewish homes. |
